Things to Do with a Summer Vacation

I'm finally getting into the groove of summer vacation.

Just in time to go back to school for two days and then off to Hershey for a leadership meeting.

But that's O.K., because I thought I was staying out of trouble by doing some part-time coverage at the public library, training Peep to stay down from the TV (ha), and figuring out my fitness/weight management plan to handle my recently diagnosed fibroids (ugh). . . and then this weekend I signed up for online dating.

Not even 24 hours on the site and already I've gotten. . .

1. Messaged by a dude when I wasn't even 100% done filling out my profile.  Didn't read a thing, I am sure.  A few other "messages" from other members came through but most were just those dumb "Hi" or "wink" (ugh) picture-grams.  I don't have time for people who can't take a minute to write at least one sentence in their own words.

2. Many views on my profile. . . but most of the men on the "viewed my profile" list are well into their 50s???  I'm sorry, I will be friends with you if you're 56, but I am nowhere near entertaining the idea of going out with you.  Maybe try setting those search parameters a little more realistically, fellas.

3. Messaged by Mr. Lehigh Valley.  (On reviewing that one post, I can't believe I said I had a nice time.  Guess I was trying to keep an open mind even though he showed up late, in shorts, to dinner--a dinner he planned solely via text.) Unfortunately I was showing my mom my profile--to see if it looked like the real me--when I read the preview of his message and I cursed in front of her.  (Mom was cool; she knew he was a jackass.)  I didn't open it because all I needed to see was "it's been a long time but I'd be willing to talk"--CLUELESS.  Talk?  He just wanted to text!  NO. Next!

4. Spotted a guy I really could like talking to, but I'm too uncertain about being the one to make the first move.  I would prefer to be pursued.  It has never worked out to my advantage to express interest first.  (That said, the site is set up to notify you who looks at your profile--see #2--so he will find out I was looking. . . )

I mean, I just joined.  I've got a lot going on.  Maybe I'll just sit back for a little while and see what comes along.

And in the meantime, I've got Peep's cuteness to enjoy.

Good luck with the online dating! I know how miserable it can be, but 1) it can provide great fodder for blog posts (something for me to look forward to) and 2) it sometimes works out really well (something for you to look forward to).

Looking forward to hearing more about it.

S.D.--thank you! I was miserable for a while. . . and I just wrote an update, so there's at least a couple stories for the blog there :)

CCR--Peep is just fun. She's resting under my chair while I type, after a busy morning of chasing a fly that somehow got in here.
